I’ll be back…. to kindergarten.

October 18, 2019

Arnold Schwarzenegger is one of the latest live action stars to make the transition into animated territory with the upcoming release of a children’s tv series “Superhero Kindergarten”, a show strategically co-produced by Genius Brands, Alibaba Group’s streaming platform Yokku, Stan Lee’s POW! Entertainment, and Schwarzenegger’s Oak Productions.

The transition from live action to animated form by prominent celebrities is a known occurrence, albeit a rare one now a days, especially if they are in a leading or prominent role in the series.

The late 80s and 90s could be considered as the peak of live action stars or live action characters, turned to animation with shows like Camp Candy (John Candy), Hammerman (Stanley Kirk Burrell (M.C.Hammer)), Chuck Norris: Karate Kommandos (Chuck Norris), New Kids on the Block cartoon, Mr. T. (Laurence Tureaud ), etc.,  with some like the Jackie Chan adventures (Jackie Chan) venturing in the new millennium. Stan Lee himself has had his animated likeness appear as cameos in several animated shows.

The obvious financial costs of celebrity power makes it hard to justify a tv animated production based on them, especially considering how rare it is that the series will have any permanence, other than as curiosities and funny tidbits, and that animated feature films already give a far better venue for celebrities to test talents in the animated medium even if the character they voice seldom share their likeness.

The series “Superhero Kindergarten” will at the time only be available to Chinese audiences but it’s expected to find its way to western audiences as soon as a proper partnership is found.

Executive producer Arnold Schwarzenegger voices Arnold Armstrong who is secretly Captain Courage, designed to the likeness of Schwarzenegger, a superhero who instructs a group of kindergarteners as they learn extraordinary new abilities they suddenly developed as result of a superhero battle that showered the town of Greendale in some form of radiation.

It is to note this was one of the final projects by the legendary comic book artist Stan Lee who passed away on November of 2018.
